The Marshall County Board of Education was scheduled to meet last night to award the bid for the construction of the new South Marshall Middle School.

Paducah’s A&K Construction submitted the low bid on the project at a total cost of $21,839,000. Two other bids were also submitted. BH Green and Son, Inc. of Paducah submitted a bid of $22,480,000 and Pinnacle Construction, Inc. of Benton came in at $23,100,000.

The architectural firm of Castleberry, McGregor and Swinford was set to review the specifics of the three submissions following last week’s bid opening. The review is standard practice to ensure that the bids include sub-contractors and materials that meet guidelines set forth in the school board’s specifications.

Barring anything unforeseen, Marshall County School Superintendent Trent Lovett said he expected the bid to be awarded to A&K at Monday night’s meeting.

Lovett said the low bid was on target with what the school board was projecting for the project.

Following the award of the bid the contractor will have until mid-July 2016 to complete construction of the project in time for opening in the fall of 2016 according to Lovett.

“That’s a tight timeframe, but the contractor said they should have no problem completing it on time,” said Lovett.

A&K Construction built North Marshall Middle School, as well as the McCracken County High School in West Paducah.

The new South Marshall Middle School will consolidate students from Benton and South Marshall middle schools into one location. The school will be located along U.S. 641 South.
